Protecting biodiversity
-
The fjord is home to a wide variety of fish, birds, shellfish, and aquatic plants.
-
Pollution leads to oxygen depletion and algal blooms, which can wipe out entire species and disrupt the food chain.
-
A clean fjord supports healthy ecosystems that benefit both wildlife and people.
Promising clean water quality
-
The fjord influences local groundwater and coastal water quality.
-
Polluted fjord water can spread harmful bacteria, microplastics, or chemicals into nearby drinking water sources and the ocean.
-
Through keeping the fjord clean, we can reduces the cost of water treatment and prevents public health risks.
Supporting sustainable fishing
-
The local fishing industry relies on healthy marine life.
-
Eutrophication (excess nutrients in the water) can cause massive fish deaths, hurting local livelihoods.
-
A clean fjord ensures steady fish stocks and a sustainable economic base for coastal communities.
And of course, combating climate change
-
Fjords and wetlands store large amounts of carbon in their sediments.
-
When polluted or disturbed, this carbon can be released back into the atmosphere.
-
By cleaning up the fjord, we can help our Denmark meet its climate and environmental goals.

SharedHumanity's Story
Building a better future through collaboration
Shared Humanity Denmark began in a classroom at University of Southern Denmark in the spring of 2023, when a few students from different backgrounds found themselves frustrated by how often good intentions stayed just that - intentions.
What started as a casual late-night conversation over coffee turned into a simple idea: make it easy for people to take small, meaningful action together.
Today, Shared Humanity is laying the groundwork to bring volunteers, local communities, and small businesses together to keep shared spaces clean and cared for. We are driven by the belief that collective action doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to begin.
